Triad of
King Menkawre
This triad represents King Mn k3w Re
standing between Goddess Hathor and the local Goddess of the nome (town) Inpw.
King Mn k3w Re is the fifth king of
the fourth dynasty and the son of king Khafre.
He is the owner of the third pyramid in Giza,
ruled for about 25 years but he died before completing his pyramid complex
which was finished by his son Shepsesskaf.
The triad is made out of schist and it
was found in the valley temple of king in Giza.
This triad is one of five statues were
found, three of them are in the Egyptian museum while the forth and the
fragments of the fifth are in the Boston museum of Fine Arts.
The king is shown standing between
goddess Hathor and the local goddess of the city Inpw, wearing the white crown
of Upper Egypt and having a false royal beard and wearing the royal short kilt
called šndyt. He also holding sticks.
His left leg is stepping forward which
is a traditional pose in ancient Egypt, the artist succeeded in showing the
facial features in fine way represented in full round , remarkable eye brows ,
wide eyes , delicate nose , high cheek bones and thin calm mouth .
The details of the body are made in
perfect way represented in the muscle of the chests, the arms and the legs, the
knees and the toes.
Goddess Hathor, to the right of the
king, she is goddess of love, music and maternity.
The name of Hathor means the house of
Horus, her main cult center was at Dendara and she tooks tree forms: completely
as co with sun disk between her two horns, completely as a lady with the sun
disk between her two horns, having the body of a lady and a head of a cow with
the sun disk.
